Justice Committee to meet for pre legislative scrutiny of the International Protection Bill 2025.

The Joint Committee on Justice, Home Affairs and Migration will meet on Tuesday October 14th for pre-legislative scrutiny of the general scheme of the International Protection Bill 2025.

The meeting will take place in Committee Room 1 of Leinster House between 15:00-17:30.

Representatives from the Child and Family Agency (Tusla), Doras, Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission and the Ombudsman for Children's Office will appear.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Committee Cathaoirleach Deputy Matt Carthy said: “The General Scheme of the International Protection Bill 2025 is intended to replace the International Protection Act 2015.”

“Ireland has opted in to the EU Asylum and Migration Pact which is due to come into effect in June 2026.

“This is a substantial piece of legislation with significant implications for this state and we welcome the opportunity to engage in pre-legislative scrutiny with a variety of stakeholders ahead of the drafting of the new Bill which is expected to be published by the end of the year.”
